Home to South Africa’s flagship horse racing event, the Hollywoodbets Durban July, Greyville Racecourse required a major upgrade to meet growing demands around broadcast quality, multi-zone audio coverage, and flexible event operation.
Prosound South Africa was appointed to deliver a total solution ahead of the 129th Durban July, combining analogue reliability with scalability and flexibility of Dante-based networked audio.
Audio and Control
At the core of the system is a Symetrix DSP platform with a 64×64 Dante matrix and custom graphical interface. This provides simple zone-based control for daily operation, while “Event Mode” gives technical staff deeper system access during major race days and large-scale events.
Distributed Venue Coverage
A distributed loudspeaker design using Electro-Voice and Bosch systems ensures consistent, intelligible coverage across grandstands, concourses, and indoor areas. This approach prioritises proximity to the audience rather than centralised high-power clusters, improving clarity across the venue.
Networked Audio and Amplification
A dedicated AV network using NetgearAV switches supports reliable Dante audio distribution throughout the site. Amplification is provided by Dynacord and LEA Professional, delivering efficient, monitored power across both high-power and distributed zones.
Broadcast Communications
The broadcast layer is built around a full Riedel system, including Artist intercom and Bolero wireless belt pack coverage. Ferrofish and Glensound solutions ensure seamless integration between venue audio and broadcast workflows.
Future-Ready Design
Designed with scalability at tis core, the system includes modular architecture, spare Dante capacity, and expansion-ready infrastructure. This ensures Greyville Racecourse is well-positioned for future concerts, festivals, and multi-purposed events beyond race days.
With this upgrade, Greyville now operates on robust, flexible, and future-proof audio and communications platform suited to South Africa’s premier racing and entertainment events.
