In the heart of Cape Town’s CBD, Pressure Cooker Studios, a full-service Music and Audio Studio, is reshaping what world-class Music and Audio production looks and sounds like. Known for delivering standout work in film, commercial and gaming, what truly sets them apart is their mission: to build a platform where talent can flourish and to close the gap between the local and global media industries.
A core part of this mission is ensuring their facilities and gear are operating at, or even exceeding, global standards. That’s where Prosound comes in: Every one of Pressure Cooker Studios’ existing 12 rooms is equipped with Genelecmonitors. From their 5.1 sound design suite and 3.0 LCR edit suite to their flagship 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos cinema and nine stereo edit and composition rooms, the consistency of Genelec ensures that Composers and Audio Engineers have the flexibility to seamlessly collaborate on projects as they move between rooms.
A recently finished brand-new studio floor will add ten more edit suites, a dedicated Foley stage and control room, and another Atmos suite, all of which are currently being fitted with Genelec monitors. The new level was designed by world-renowned studio architect Martin Pilchner of Pilchner-Schoustal (who was also behind their existing floor design) and built in collaboration with Benjamin Pro Audio, with every inch optimised for acoustic performance.
Pressure Cooker Studios Sound Engineer and Technician Alec Mackay says: “Genelec SAM speakers have built-in DSP that allows us to optimize frequency response and calibrate the levels in each room to seamlessly manage the different monitoring needs of every Music and Audio project.”
With a Dante network woven into the fabric of their infrastructure, the team can access their tracking rooms and booths from any studio across both floors without extensive analog cabling.
Combined with Source Connect, Audiomovers, and synchronous ADR workflows, the entire studio is built to be natively collaborative, whether working with clients in the room or halfway around the world.
Pressure Cooker Studios is creating something rare: a connected ecosystem where collaboration is encouraged so that ideas can flow freely, and every sound is heard exactly as intended, across every room.
James Matthes Pressure Cooker Studios CEO says: “Nothing beats Genelec when it comes to quality, precision and consistency. They are the go to monitoring system in the media industry, and therefore our monitors of choice across the whole studio.”
Their unwavering trust in Genelec monitoring is both a reflection of their high global standards and their long-term investment in infrastructure that lasts.
