Gold FM 104.3 Welkom began 4 years ago situated in a corner shop at a local shopping center. As the station grew, they decided to relocate to the Gold Fields Casino where they found themselves in need of more space to work with. Gold FM then decided it was time to get a place of their own. Local businessman Ari Abatsaglo offered Gold FM a unit in a media center development, intended for newspaper outlets. The Gold FM Team fell in love with the space & decided to make the move.
Veteran Broadcaster Brian Emmenis, a Board Member of Gold FM & long-standing friend of Prosound, volunteered as Project Manager to facilitate the move to their new building. Brian has been in the Broadcast Industry for over 44 years broadcasting with the SABC; OFM & Capital Radio 604. Brian’s Involvement with Prosound goes back to 1976 where he met Terry Acres & Denis Feldman at Musicians Sound Centre.
In 1981 Brian built his 1st Mobile Broadcast Unit for Capital Radio which he bought from Prosound & is in working condition to this day. As Project Manager of the Gold FM move, he reached out to Directors Mark Malherbe & Andre Buys & Sales Manager Brendan Venter, who were an inspirational help in assisting with the move into the new premises, despite the lockdown measures in place.
With the move to their new location Gold FM set out to get new microphones to pair new studios. The Station Standardized with the RE320 offering linear tonal performance even when the sound source is moving around the mic due to Electro-Voice’s Variable D, an exclusive solution to the tonal changes associated with the proximity effect.
Prosound also provided a Bosch IP64 rated Public Address System for Station playback Outside the office premises.
Brian’s Comment on the RE320’s: “I swear by these microphones for their outstanding quality & the fact that we didn’t need to spend large amounts on Sound Proofing or Acoustic Treatment. Both Studios are Painted Drywall, 0 treatment whatsoever & the sound is perfect”.
