The inaugural Tshwane University of Technology Arts Festival took place between 25 and 27 September, 2018 at their arts campus in Tshwane. Solid Rock Projects and Events, in collaboration with Prosound very proudly sponsored the main stage, providing a full Meyer Sound solution for the duration of the festival.
Solid Rock Projects and Events supplied the Meyer Sound gear, which comprised of Leopards and Meyer Sound 900LFC, Galileo Galaxy processing. A Yamaha M7 desk and rack ran the show. A RMS system was also provided for remote monitoring. Paul Van Zyl from Solid Rock was on hand to man the RMS system, ensuring that the audio was well looked after. Along with the PA system, Solid Rock also supplied Eurotruss PA lifters.
Prosound supplied all stage monitors and microphones for the event, using a range of Electro-Voice powered boxes and EV ND series microphones. Lee Brune from Prosound liked the idea of using different speakers in different monitor positions as it demonstrated to the students working on the production the same reliable, distinct, warm sound get from the EV range.
All microphones used onstage were from the new Electro-Voice ND series.
Production manager for the event is Hardus Koekemoer, with assistance from Freddie Malesa, both part of the Tshwane University of Technology Entertainment Technology Department. Hardus and Freddie were on hand to make sure the programme ran smoothly as well as evaluate the second and third year students that made up the crew for the festival. PA and stage set up, as well as stage management and strike were all undertaken by the students, as this will all form part of their experience when working in the live entertainment industry. The excitement was palpable amongst the students as they went about their work, even in the 35 degree heat.
To complete the stage set up, Stage Effects also very kindly sponsored the festival with Eurotruss HD44 tower as well as stage decks and other structures.
The Production team from TUT were very impressed with the Meyer system, as well as the support they received from Solid Rock and Prosound.
Freddie Malesa added “Thanks for the support. Talking about the support, what I got from the Meyer Sound Leopard. The best! They are on point and responsive, the warmth sound that you get is unbelievable. I use some of our old lapels which were not great but what I got from the Leopards is the ability to get flat EQ response with a a touch of only HPF roll off 100Hz nothing more. The floor tom sounded like it would in a studio. I would highly recommend the Meyer Leopard system.”
