2010 FIFA World Cup

After exceeding all expectations and successfully hosting the FIFA World Cup, the year 2010 will forever be etched into the hearts and minds of all South Africans. For Prosound, it was an extra special year, as it marked the culmination of perhaps our proudest and most ambitious achievement yet.

Ten official stadiums were built or refurbished to the highest international specifications for the tournament. In an unprecedented move, nine of those ten stadiums awarded their sound system contracts to Prosound. We also designed and installed the sound system for Orlando Stadium, an official FIFA training facility, making it ten official FIFA stadiums in total.

We worked tirelessly over a four year period to ensure the project’s success, collaborating with some of the world’s foremost consulting engineers, architects and building contractors.

In addition to the stadiums, we also designed and managed the complex systems at the country’s top three Fan Fests in Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. By the end of the tournament, these three venues had contributed 60% of total Fan Fest attendance.

The following stadia were either upgraded or had entire new sound systems designed and installed:

  • Soccer City
  • Green Point Stadium
  • Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium
  • Mbombela Stadium
  • Peter Mokaba Stadium
  • Royal Bafokeng Stadium
  • Free State Stadium
  • Coca Cola Park (Ellis Park)
  • Loftus Stadium
  • Orlando Stadium
